At the Faculty of Law of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, the School of Specialization for the Legal Professions is established, pursuant to and for the purposes of art. 16 of Legislative Decree No. 398 of 17 November 1997 and Ministerial Decree No. 537 of the Ministry of Universities and Scientific and Technological Research of 21 December 1999.

The School lasts two years.

The School's educational objective is to develop in students the set of attitudes and skills characterizing the professionalism of ordinary magistrates, lawyers and notaries, also with reference to the growing international integration of legislation and legal systems and to the most modern techniques for searching for sources.

The specialisation diploma is a prerequisite for participation in the competition for judicial auditor (for graduates from the academic year 1998/99) and allows exemption from the preliminary test for access to the competition (for graduates before the academic year 1998/99).

For access to the professions of Lawyer and Notary, the School is recognized as a substitute for the period of one year of the compulsory internship.

Trainees  registered in the Register from 1 April 2022 onwards, who have successfully attended the Specialisation Schools for the Legal Professions, are excluded from the obligation to attend the Course according to the following indications of the Milan Bar Association:

In line with the opinion expressed by the CNF on 15 July (opinion to COA Naples), it is believed that although attendance at the School is not provided for ex professo as a cause for exemption, the Specialisation Schools are counted among the providers of compulsory courses. It follows that a functional equivalence can be postulated between the attendance of the SSPL and the attendance of the compulsory course, with consequent absorption of the obligation (see the FAQ published by the Milan Bar Association)

It should be noted that if a student of the Specialisation School for any reason does not intend to wait for the achievement of the Specialisation Diploma (without which he or she will not be able to enrol in the register), he or she can still follow the entire compulsory course (within the School) and take the intermediate and final tests.
