What is an internship?

The curricular internship is a training and job orientation practice in organisations (institutions, companies, etc.) that offer interns the opportunity for a first approach to the world of work in view of future career choices. The University evaluates the activities of the period of stay at the institution as  complementary to the classroom learning process and to individual study.

Internship Committee of the Interfaculty Economics-Arts and Philosophy:

  • Prof. Roberta Paroli (Chair)
  • Prof. Chiara Paolino (Area Referent)
  • Giovanna Pugno Vanoni (university internship tutor)

The project internship (curricular internship with ECTS) is included among the applied knowledge indicated in the Faculty Guide and is an optional activity.

How to access

Students who intend to opt for the project internship can choose it by starting a path that will see, in the end, the inclusion of the internship in the study plan instead of the elective exam worth 8 ECTS and with a grade expressed out of 30 - in the profile of the degree programme in Italian - and worth 6 ECTS and a grade expressed out of 30 - in the profile of the degree programme in English (MaTAM). The conditions for starting the internship are the availability of the institution and the achievement of academic eligibility for the internship. The latter consists in having accrued at least 48 ECTS by 30 September (in this case the eligibility is valid from 1 September for the entire academic year) or 72 ECTS by 31 March (in this case the eligibility is valid from 1 March for the rest of the academic year). In October and April of each academic year, the Internship Committee, with the collaboration of the relevant Offices, draws up a list of candidates eligible for the internship through the Blackboard Internship page.

For each academic year, the deadline for the assessment of the academic eligibility for the internship is set:

  • by 30 September for those who have acquired at least 48 ECTS
  • by 31 March for those who have acquired at least 72 ECTS

In May of the first academic year, students will be invited to a meeting during which the project internship is presented.

All students will be able to access the Blackboard Project Internship page automatically in May of their first university year.

For more information, please refer to the materials available on the course Blackboard page.

The activation of the internship follows the procedures of the STEP platform. The project internship requires the approval of the area reference professor/lecturer, which will take place through the university tutor. The tutor must be indicated on the platform.

The reference office for the activation procedures is the Internships & Placements Service (stage-mi@unicatt.it).
