What is the internship

The curricular internship is a compulsory teaching activity aimed at developing professional skills through direct involvement in real operational contexts. It constitutes a bridge between theoretical and practical professional training, offering the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired in the field and to integrate those being acquired, in an experiential process consistent with one's course of study.

  • Curricular internship: mandatory.
  • Credits recognized: 5 ECTS.
  • Total duration: 125 hours (25 hours can be recognized as previous activity).
  • When it takes place: starting from the end of the second year and during the third year of the programme.
  • How to activate it: during the second semester of the second year of study, the student will be invited to fill in a special online form to express their preference with respect to the area in which they intend to carry out the curricular internship (with the acquisition of ECTS). Once the area has been selected, they will be contacted by the university tutor of reference.
  • Recognition of ECTS: this takes place by registering for a dedicated session (starting from the June session of the third year), after having delivered all the final documentation to the university internship tutor. The minutes are deferred.

The activation of the curricular internship takes place online through the Internship & Placement (ST&P) portal. Follow these steps to start the procedure successfully.

  1. Contact the University Tutor: after choosing the area of interest (e.g. Fitness, School, etc.) and identifying the structure where to carry out the curricular internship, contact the university tutor of reference to define the methods and times of the course.
  2. Follow the online procedure: access the dedicated portal (Student Access) to start the activation of the training project.
  3. Wait for approval: once all the information has been entered, the training project must be approved in order to start the activity.

For the detailed guide with all the technical steps to follow on the portal, download the official document.

Once the 125 hours have been completed, follow these steps to correctly conclude the course and obtain the recognition of the ECTS.

  1. Collect the final documentation: make sure that the company tutor has filled in and signed the Attendance and Assessment Form (with company stamp) and has drawn up his/her final report on headed paper.
  2. Writing the personal report: drafting the personal report on the experience carried out, using the appropriate format.
  3. Deliver everything to the University Tutor: present the mandatory documents to your curricular internship university tutor.

These forms must be sent by e-mail to the university tutor in a single pdf file. Files larger than 1MB will not be accepted.
  4. Attendance on the day of the roll call is not required: the recording will take place deferred.

Is the internship compulsory?

Yes, the internship is a compulsory teaching activity in the third year of the programme and is worth 5 ECTS.

How many hours of internship do I have to do?

The total number of hours is 125 hours. 25 hours can be recognised as previous activity (meetings, seminars, guided tours, work experience carried out before activating the internship with CFU).

Can I carry out the internship in an area that is not on the list of tutors (e.g. sports journalism)?

Yes. For specific cases, it is necessary to contact directly the coordinator of the curricular internship indicated in the contacts.

I have already worked in a gym. Can I have it recognized as an internship?

Yes, it is possible to obtain an exemption of up to a maximum of 25 hours for previous experience (work or voluntary internship) as long as they are related to motor sciences and certified by the external body. The certificate must be presented to the university tutor together with the final documentation.

Do I have to show up on the day of the roll call for the internship to be recorded?

No. As specified in the guide, once you have delivered all the documentation and obtained approval from the university internship tutor, you must register for the exam but you must not show up. The minutes are recorded on a "deferred basis".

To start the internship process, contact the university tutor in the field of interest. You must use your institutional email (@icatt.it) for all communications. Office hours are by appointment via e-mail.
