What is the internship

The internship is a training experience in a company to acquire professional skills, optional for Banking Sciences except in specific cases (mandatory for LT EMIF – Financial Insurance Consultant profile / LT and LM in agreement with ODCEC). If it complies with certain requirements (duration, CFU, etc.), it can replace one or more exams of your choice

Requirements for registration in the 2025 register
  • To obtain the ECTS, it is necessary to enrol in the register before the internship begins. In the event that registration in the register is not possible, it will not be possible to activate an internship in the form of a Curricular Internship with CFU, but as a Curricular with zero CFU
  • The internship is a non-compulsory teaching method. Therefore, the Faculty does not guarantee a number of internships equal to the number of internships requested annually by students. Once you have found the internship, you must receive approval from the faculty tutor, contacting him by email BEFORE it starts
  • The internship activity corresponds to 10 credits for the degree in Economics of Markets and Financial Intermediaries, 8 credits for the master's degrees in Economics of Markets and Financial Intermediaries and in Banking and Finance, 5 credits for the graduate degree in Actuarial sciences, risk and data analysis. These credits can only be identified in the free-choice training credits.
  • In order for the recognition of credits, the internship must meet the following requirements:
    • the duration must be at least 3 months;
    • The internship tutor must be informed about all the details of the internship before it starts
    • the internship must be completed, respecting the duration set by the training project, unless the interruption is due to the student's graduation;
    • At the end of the internship, the student must prepare a final report.
  • In the event that the proposed internship is carried out abroad, the enrolled student may request approval even if the duration is less than three months. The referring professor verifies their eligibility by ascertaining that:
    • the internship lasts no less than four weeks;
    • the internship is carried out with a company of consolidated reputation;
    • the host company has adopted a public selection process, allowing access to anyone on a competitive basis;
    • the host company is active in the banking, finance and insurance sector or is listed on regulated markets.
  • Once the internship period is over, the delivery of the Final Internship Report is required, completed in accordance with the procedures indicated in the Blackboard Course Documents section. The delivery must take place at least five weeks before the start date of the graduation session, by email to the internship tutor. In the text of the email, you must specify the exams of your choice that you wish to replace with the internship

  • Registration in the Register of Internships
  • When you want to request approval of the internship from the faculty tutor by email, you are asked not to send meagre emails (for example, "I have found an internship, is it worth the recognition of CFU?"), but to provide all the details of the internship (duration, location, company, how you found the internship, etc.) and specify the degree course and year in which you are enrolled.

The company will have to upload the training project on the step.unicatt.it portal and all parties will have to accept it (download the complete procedure for activating the curricular internship with credits here)

Final report (completed in the manner indicated in the Blackboard Course Documents section)

Once the internship period is over, the delivery of the Final Internship Report is required, completed in accordance with the procedures indicated in the Blackboard Course Documents section. The delivery must take place at least five weeks before the start date of the graduation session, by email to the internship tutor. In the text of the email, you must specify the exams of your choice that you wish to replace with the internship.

Subsequently, the secretariat will replace the exams specified by the student with the internship. The student must register for the exam session of the internship (not of the substitute exam) in order to be able to record the CFU. This exam session will be scheduled at least two weeks before the graduation session. Please note that registration for the exam session is therefore a necessary condition for the recording of the credits of the internship.

Please note that the internship has no grade and is recorded as "Approved".

I have found an internship and I want to ask if it can be validated as a curricular internship with CFU, what should I do?

First of all, it is necessary to read all this document and the regulations of the faculty internships. If the student is not already enrolled in the Internship Register, this step must be completed (see question 4).

When you want to request approval of the internship from the faculty tutor by email, you are asked not to send meagre emails (for example, "I have found an internship, is it worth the recognition of CFU?"), but to provide all the details of the internship (duration, location, company, how you found the internship, etc.) and specify the degree course and year in which you are enrolled.

During this academic year I want to carry out an internship activity, but I am unable to include the "Curricular Internship" in the Study Plan, what should I do?

It is not possible to enter the Curricular Internship in the Study Plan. It is necessary to enter the exams of your choice, which will be validated (based on the ECTS established in the regulations) at the end of the internship.

For students in the first year of a Master's Degree, it is advisable to anticipate the ECTS relating to free choice courses in their study plan.

I would like to enrol in the register. By when do I have to send the necessary documents?

The School of Banking, Finance and Insurance Sciences does not provide for any limit in this regard. It is possible to send one's application for admission to the register at any time of the year, without prejudice to the requirements prescribed by the Regulations.

What do I need for registration in the register?

The tutor must be sent:

  • The form available in the Documents section of the Blackboard course, duly completed;
  • For graduate degree students only, the three-year degree study plan, complete with ECTS;

I carried out a Curricular Internship during my Bachelor's Degree, obtained at another university. Can I still enrol in the register?

Yes, and it is possible to take a new internship during the Master's Degree.

I cannot enrol in the register. Is there no possibility to carry out an internship?

In the event that registration in the register is not possible, it will not be possible to activate an internship in the form of a curricular internship with CFU.

However, there is nothing to prevent you from carrying out a curricular internship at zero credits. In this case, neither registration in the register nor approval by the faculty tutor is required. To activate an internship of this type, it is still possible to use the services offered by the Internship and Placement, both as support for activation and for the search for the internship through the step.unicatt.it portal.

I have found an internship independently, do I still have to register in the register?

To obtain the ECTS, it is necessary to enrol in the register before the internship begins.

If it is a company with which the Faculty has never activated Curricular Internships, the tutor will ask for some details in order to obtain the approval of the Referent Professor.

I have taken enough exams to be able to apply for admission to the register, but I have not yet registered them. What can I do?

Registration in the register is possible. It is sufficient to indicate separately, in the application form, these exams, the dates on which they were taken and the name of the teacher.

I enrolled in the register. How can I find an internship?

There are three ways to do this:

  • Through the Internship and Placement Portal, by responding to the advertisements that are published.
  • Through the tutor, who will forward the CVs to the companies that request them directly.
  • Autonomously, without prejudice to the need to contact the tutor in time so that it is possible to assess the company in which you intend to carry out the internship period and agree on the training objectives, assessing the consistency of the internship with the course of study.

In addition to these methods, it is possible to join the programs offered by UCSC International that provide for an internship abroad. Also in this case, in order to obtain the CFU, the approval of the tutor is required before the start of the activities.

If I am offered an internship, am I obliged to accept?

No. Before submitting a CV to the company, the tutor always asks for confirmation that the student is interested in the proposal. Generally, a deadline is indicated by which to send your application to the tutor.

However, it is strongly recommended to use the method referred to in point a) of the previous answer. In this case, it is understood that the student chooses to respond only to the ads he finds interesting.
