SUSTAINABILITY

Universities play a fundamental role both in the education of future generations and in the transmission of knowledge to society as a whole. This role must increasingly refer also and above all to the promotion of sustainable development, understood as that "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs"
(World Commission on Environment and Development, Our Common Future, 1987).
