Course Outline

All profiles express the same spirit and allow students to reach a homogeneous level of preparation, developing chronologically starting from a base of common teachings in a coherent path of growth that includes:

  • from the first year to the second, historical-theoretical disciplinary courses and contextual cultural skills (historical and literary) and the first experiences of practical work in laboratory groups, aimed at basic technical skills (writing and video production, public speaking and performance, photography, organization of events and exhibitions);
  • from the second year to the third year, courses aimed at analytical and strategic in-depth study (aesthetics, languages and semiotics) and theoretical-practical disciplines (dedicated to performative skills, production, directing and management practices of audiovisual content, organizational and curatorial practices in the field of art events);
  • in the third year the common courses of professionalization (strategy, production and organization), internship opportunities and personal final exam projects.

The DAMS course prepares students for access, at the Brescia campus, to the graduate degree programme in Digital Content Management for Media, Business and Cultural Heritage (class LM-19), and, at the Milan campus, to the graduate degree programme in Communication for business, media and complex organisations (class LM-19/LM-59), as well as to all class LM-65 master's degree programmes (please refer to the appropriate procedures for admission procedures).

Credits

To obtain the three-year degree, 180 university credits (CFU) are required. Each exam is awarded a certain number of credits, the same for all students, and a grade (expressed in thirtieths) that varies according to the level of preparation.

A 6-credit course includes 30 hours of lectures; A course of 12 credits includes 60 credits. Courses can be taught according to a semester or annual calendar, as indicated in the timetable on the Faculty Notice Board.

A characteristic of DAMS is the supplementary teaching offer of professionalizing activities, in which to work concretely under the guidance of professionals. A 2-credit workshop includes 30 hours of shared work, in addition to personal or group in-depth study.
The final examination is expressed in one hundred and tenths. It can be theoretical or practical. In the first case, the test consists of the evaluation discussion of a research, documentation, criticism or design paper concerning the areas of interest. In the case of the practical test, a theatrical, audiovisual, radio, multimedia, artistic production will be discussed in an evaluative sense; or the organization of an artistic or museum or communication event in the field of fashion and design; or the production of a dossier of articles or a journalistic investigation, carried out in the press or as a television or radio reportage; or the conception and implementation (at least partial) of a project for the cultural enhancement of the territory.

The DAMS course is divided into three training profiles:

Dams for the arts is designed to introduce the world of visual arts, design and fashion in three areas: in the conception and planning of initiatives and events in the world of culture, in the promotion and communication of artistic events, in training and teaching activities for exhibitions, museum itineraries and cultural tourism projects. Courses in art, architecture, design, photography, video art, fashion and visual art introduce you to the diverse world of contemporary art, while workshops provide the appropriate skills to transform content into projects.
The first year is dedicated to historical-theoretical training in the fields of contemporary art, visual arts, architecture and design and makes use of workshops that immediately introduce the sectors of application of theoretical skills: with Cristiana Campanini, curator and art critic of Repubblica, you learn a specific method of critical writing for art, while with Mariacristina Maccarinelli, curator of the Leonesia Foundation in Puegnago del Garda (BS), visual art artists meet and educational projects with art are carried out.
The second and third years deepen the areas of visual arts, with courses dedicated to  photography, video art and fashion. You learn to photograph cultural heritage and the landscape with expressiveness with the American photographer Bob Tyson and you realize in all its aspects, from curatorship, to promotion and setting up a real exhibition in public spaces of the territory with the laboratory of Daniele Perra, editor of Arttribune and Exibart among others.
The third year, with Roberta D'Adda, curator and curator of the Brescia Museums Foundation, we get to know the works of art and activities of Brescia museums up close: from conservation to curatorship, to teaching. The teaching of Lucio Argano, Vice President of the Culture Advisory Area of PTSCLAS SpA and project manager of Rome City of Film – UNESCO Creative City, is also dedicated to the planning of the cultural event, while the workshop of Ermanno Nardi, artistic director of Industria Scenica, leads to design activities of the multimedia event shared with the other students of the Dams.

Dams for media is built on two parallel "tracks": a path is dedicated to those who have more aptitude for production and technical and creative practices (direction, shooting and editing); the other is dedicated to those who prefer writing, the world of information and journalism. Both courses are strengthened by shared general skills, also with the other Dams training profiles, but offer some fundamental stages of in-depth study of their specific topics.

1: Dams for media: production
The path dedicated to technical-production professionalism obviously insists on working with production professionals: after the basic courses of the 1st year, with the filmmakers Fabio Piozzi and  with Stefano Bianchi, Producer, Director of Photography, Director at FEBO FILMS s.r.l., the whole 2nd year is dedicated to refining technical skills, led by Marco Meazzini, independent filmmaker and technical tutor of the course, then Graziano Chiscuzzu, Co-Founder, CEO and Producer of 5e6 s.r.l.; Luca Sorsoli, Producer, and Alessandro Milini, Founder and CEO of Albatros Film &Video. Together, the 2nd year teachers represent the main production realities of the Brescia area, media agencies that operate at the highest national level: with them the students will discover the secrets of the set and production.
The 3rd year of the course is then the time for deepening and discovering new forms of vision: the course of honours in English in filmmaking and film production, held for the writing and directing part by Amedeo D'Adamo, American director, professor at the American Film Institute (best American film school of 2020) and for the production module by Nevina Satta, CEO of the Sardinia Film Commission; and in the second semester the advanced directing course of Enrico Ranzanici, an independent videomaker, who will open the doors of creativity for the out-of-format to students: from multimedia to site-specific installations.

2: Dams for the media: information
The path dedicated to reportage, video documentation, and the world of information grafts on the basic skills of videomaking, imparted by the independent filmmakers Fabio Piozzi and Stefano Bianchi, Producer, Director of Photography, Director at FEBO FILMS s.r.l., a specific work path with expert professionals in the world of information.
During the 1st year we will work on the basic skills of journalism with Francesca Sandrini and Gianluca Gallinari, editors of the Giornale di Brescia.
The 2nd year is dedicated to the study of the world of information in its relations with the media and contemporary culture , led by Gerolamo Fazzini, collaborator of Avvenire, and Pierluigi Ferrari, correspondent of TG3 Lombardy, and we will put ourselves to the test at the editorial office of the Voice of the People in the multimedia journalism laboratory, coordinated by Marco Meazzini, independent filmmaker and technical tutor of the course.
The 3rd year of the course is the time for in-depth study, and we will work with Gaia Mombelli, correspondent of Sky TG24, on the forms of video reportage, as well as with Ermanno Nardi, artistic director of Industria Scenica, with whom we will build the communication of a multimedia event conceived with the classmates of the other Dams profiles.

Dams for the performing arts is a single course designed to give historical-theoretical and practical skills in three key sectors of the contemporary entertainment world: the creative and artistic sector , that of the production and organization of live events and, finally, that of social and community theater. In a society such as the contemporary one, in which the forms of entertainment are increasingly hybridized, it is essential that future professionals are in possession of strong skills in the field of media, communication and art. Hence the presence of courses in common with the other Dams training profiles, flanked by specific courses in theater, music and performance for a progressive and always interdisciplinary training.

The 1st year is dedicated to historical-theoretical teaching and constitutes the fundamental basis for understanding one's attitude and orienting oneself in the world of entertainment. We immediately began to collaborate with local realities (Centro Teatrale Bresciano, Residenza Idra), participating in the vision of shows and opening up to the ability to read and analyze the performance.
With the 2nd year we enter the heart of the performing arts led by Mariarita Simone , actress, playwright, director of the Teatro dell'Albero in Milan and PhD in theatrical disciplines. Artistic  skills are refined in the workshop with Silvio Castiglioni, one of the greatest actors of Italian theater and expert pedagogue. At the same time, work is being done on educational, social and community theatre with Carla Coletti, one of the best-known researchers and operators in the sector. The organizational area, on the other hand, is first addressed by Elisa Lancini, operations manager of Acec Brescia and professional project manager, and then fully developed with Lucio Argano, Vice President of the Culture Advisory Area of PTSCLAS SpA and project manager of Rome City of Film - Unesco Creative City.
Finally, the three creative-artistic, production-organization, social and community theater sectors are deepened during the 3rd year, when we will work with Ermanno Nardi, artistic director of Industria Scenica, on the creation, production and communication of a multimedia and live event conceived with the companions of the other Dams profiles.
