What is the internship?

The curricular internship is a didactic-professional training experience carried out in a working environment (company, school, or laboratory), with defined and agreed learning objectives. It allows students to apply in practice the knowledge acquired during their degree program.

  • Mandatory: Not mandatory; it can be replaced with other training activities or relevant work experience related to the study program.
  • Credits awarded: 6 ECTS (“Internship”)
  • Minimum duration: 150 hours
  • When it takes place: During the second year of the program
  • How to activate it: Once an internship has been arranged with a host organization, the student must contact the Academic Internship Tutor, describing timing, content, and expected tasks.
  • Credit recognition: Obtained by registering for a dedicated exam session (starting from the winter session of the third year), after submitting all final documentation to the academic tutor. Registration is recorded later (deferred grading).

The activation of the curricular internship takes place online through the Stage & Placement (ST&P) portal. Follow these steps:

  1. Contact organizations independently: After identifying your area of interest, students are strongly encouraged to directly contact companies, institutions, or organizations to check their availability to host an internship. The University provides access to the JobTeaser portal, which includes regularly updated internship and job opportunities.
  2. Contact the Academic Internship Tutor and the Reference Teacher for Internship: Once the internship opportunity has been identified and agreed upon with the host organization, contact the academic tutor to define timing and structure. It is also necessary to contact the reference teacher for internship to ensure that the internship content is consistent with the degree program objectives.
  3. Follow the online procedure: Access the dedicated portal (student access) to start the training agreement process.
  4. Wait for approval: Once all information has been entered, the training agreement must be approved before starting the internship.

For detailed technical instructions, download the official guide.

To manage and complete the internship, the following documentation must be prepared.

Activity log
Students must prepare a document (Word or other format) containing a table with three columns:

  • Date
  • Activity performed
  • Number of hours worked

This document must be completed throughout the internship and signed by the host organization at the end.

Final report
At the end of the internship, students must write a report of approximately two pages describing in detail the activities carried out and reflecting on how these relate to their academic path.

Once the 150 required hours have been completed, follow these steps to conclude the process and obtain credits:

  1. Collect final documentation: Ensure that the company tutor has signed the activity log and complete the final report.
  2. Submit documentation: Send all required documents in a single PDF file via email to both the academic internship tutor and the reference teacher for internship.
  3. Register for the exam session: After the academic tutor has verified the documentation and the reference teacher has approved it, students can register for the first available session for internship credit recognition. Attendance is not required; the registration will be recorded later.

Is the internship mandatory?
No, the internship is not mandatory. It is one of the training activities that students can choose for credit recognition. Alternatively, students may opt for other activities (such as conferences, workshops, research activities, language courses, IT skills courses, international experiences, service learning, etc.) considered valid by the academic structure.

How many hours are required?
The minimum duration is 150 hours.

I have already worked. Can it be recognized as an internship?
Yes, it is possible to request recognition of work activities consistent with the degree program. These activities must have been carried out during the university period, must not have been previously recognized, and must not have been performed under the employment of parents or relatives.
To request recognition, students must submit:

  • A written report describing the experience
  • A letter on company letterhead (signed by the employer) indicating the duration of the activity and the tasks performed

Can I do the internship abroad?
Yes, it is possible to carry out the internship abroad, provided that the activity is consistent with the study program and approved in advance by the academic tutor.
