What is the internship

The internship (or curricular internship) is a training experience that allows students to apply the knowledge acquired during their university career in a real work context. It is a fundamental component of the curriculum, aimed at facilitating entry into the world of work and developing specific professional skills.

  • Duration: minimum 2 months, for a total between 160 (3 months part-time) and 320 hours (3 months full-time or 6 months part-time).
  • Educational credits (CFU): the curricular internship provides for the attribution of 3 ECTS for the INTERNSHIP (3 months part-time) and 6 ECTS for the INTERNSHIP+EXTRA INTERNSHIP (3 months full-time or 6 months part-time).
  • Tutor: each internship includes a university tutor and a company tutor.
  • Allowances: any reimbursement of expenses is at the discretion of the host institution.
  • Insurance coverage: Università Cattolica guarantees insurance coverage against accidents at work (INAIL) and for civil liability towards third parties.

  1. Contact with the university tutor: before starting the procedure, it is necessary to consult the internship tutor of the Faculty to define the timing, methods and contents of the internship.
  2. Registration of the host institution: the host company or institution must register on the ST&P portal (http://step.unicatt.it) and request the conclusion of an agreement with the University.
  3. Completion of the training project: once the agreement has been activated, the host institution enters the details of the internship on the ST&P portal, specifying the university and company tutor.
  4. Approval: the training project must be approved by the student, the university tutor and the Internship & Placement Service.
  5. Start of the internship: after approvals, the internship can start on the agreed date

  • Internship agreement: agreement between the University and the host institution.
  • Training project: document that defines the objectives, activities and methods of the internship.
  • Any additional documents: these can be requested according to the specific needs of the degree programme or the host institution.
  • For the detailed guide with all the technical steps to follow on the portal, download the official document.

At the end of the internship, you must:

  1. Fill in the final questionnaire: available on the ST&P portal, it is mandatory for the recognition of ECTS.
  2. Check the registration of ECTS: check that the credits have been correctly registered at the UC-Point. If you have any problems, please contact the internship tutor immediately to avoid delays in graduation.

Can I replace the internship with a foreign language course?
No, foreign language courses are not considered elective training activities as a substitute for internships.

Is there a reimbursement of expenses for the curricular internship?
The participation allowance is at the discretion of the host institution.

What to do if problems arise during the internship?
Immediately contact your university tutor to address and resolve any critical issues.

Can I have an existing or already carried out work activity recognized as a curricular internship? In order to be recognised as equivalent to an internship, the work activity must take place in the relevant sector of the field of study and cannot be prior to the start of the academic career.

I have reached the number of hours necessary to obtain the ECTS, can I interrupt the internship? The internship can only be interrupted for valid reasons that must be evaluated by the tutor. Early termination of the internship may compromise the recognition of training credits.

Are there alternatives to internships to be included in the Study Plan?
The internship can be replaced with a laboratory of the student's free choice among the following:

  • Workshop on Content Strategy for Social Media
  • Public speaking workshop
  • Radio Communication and Podcast Workshop
  • Workshop on Images and Communication for Cooperation
  • Lab on Events and Exhibitions as Communication Tools

Access is only granted to a limited number of students. The methods of access will be communicated to interested students before the submission of the study plan.
