The course at a glance

The degree programme is offered at the Rome Campus of Università Cattolica, within the Policlinico A. Gemelli.

The three-year undergraduate degree course in Audioprothesic Techniques qualifies graduates to practise as hearing aid technicians, a healthcare profession responsible for "supply, adaptation and control of prosthetic devices for the prevention and correction of hearing impairments".

The training course aims to provide the theoretical and scientific bases appropriate to the knowledge of alterations in the auditory and communication systems, the technical aspects of all hearing aids, in particular conventional hearing aids, and their indications and applications in the treatment of hearing loss and hearing dysfunctions. Key skills include the ability to manage and fine-tune implantable hearing devices for the middle and inner ear, with particular focus on cochlear implants. Particular attention is paid to prosthetic applications in particular categories of patients (such as paediatric, elderly, and 'medically vulnerable' individuals) and to advanced technology hearing aids. The training also includes the acquisition of appropriate knowledge of the psychological and social aspects related to deafness, as well as the skills necessary for interdisciplinary collaboration and the organization and management of one's professional activity.

A large and growing space over the three-year period is allocated to internship activities in clinical and audioprothesic environments, an indispensable training tool for the practice of health professions.

Professionalism and human sensitivity: a role in the service of others

Choosing to embark on this path means ot only acquiring technical and scientific skills, but also developing strong interpersonal skills and a strong ability to work in a team.

The courses are organized in structures located throughout the country: the partnerships activated with hospitals, health authorities and institutes allow the training course to be carried out in different locations before the final qualifying exam for professional practice.

Teaching methodology

Direct experiences are the real added value of these courses: in addition to lectures, from the first year students are involved in practical training activities and clinical internships with professional tutors.
