Internships

An internship is a training activity carried out within organisational settings (public bodies, companies, etc.) that provides students with an initial exposure to the professional world in preparation for future career choices. The University recognises the activities undertaken during the internship period as an integral component of the learning process, complementing both classroom instruction and independent study.

Participation is optional. The internship is referred to as a project internship. In the Italian-language degree programme, it carries 8 CFU and is assessed with a mark expressed out of thirty; in the English-language degree programme (MaTAM), it carries 6 CFU and is likewise assessed with a mark expressed out of thirty.

Internship Committee of the Faculty of Economics for the Inter-Faculty Master's Degree Programme:

Prof. Chiara Paolino (Committee Lead and Area Coordinator)
Prof. Roberta Paroli (Committee Lead and Programme Coordinator)
Dr Giovanna Pugno Vanoni (University Internship Tutor)

The eligibility requirements for undertaking an internship are the completion of at least 48 CFU by 30 September or the completion of at least 72 CFU by 31 March. Each academic year, during the months of October and April, the Internship Committee draws up, with the support of the relevant administrative offices, a list of students eligible for the project internship.

Eligibility established by the September deadline allows students to begin their internship on a date of their choice from 1 September onwards and remains valid for the entire academic year. Eligibility established by the March deadline allows students to begin their internship on a date of their choice from 1 February onwards and remains valid for the entire academic year.

Each academic year, in the month of May, students will be invited to an introductory meeting held at the University, presenting the project internship pathway.

All students will be automatically granted access to the Blackboard page 'Project Internship' in May of their first year.

For further information, please consult the materials available on the course Blackboard page.

The activation of the internship follows the procedure set out on the Step platform.

The project internship requires the approval of the designated area coordinator, which will be granted through the university tutor. When completing the platform, students must indicate the university internship tutor referred to in points 1 and 2, and not the coordinating academic referee.

The relevant office for activation procedures is, for internships undertaken in Italy, the Stage & Placement Service (stage-mi@unicatt.it) and, for internships undertaken abroad, the International Relations Service (wea@unicatt.it).

  • Eligibility. Students carry out a self-assessment of their eligibility; the list of eligible students is then published on the Blackboard Stage page each October and April.
  • Internship project approval. Formal approval is obtained by submitting the training and orientation project on the Step platform, indicating the university internship tutor for the relevant area.
  • Internship activation. Carried out through the Step platform; the process requires 15 days.
  • Completion of internship activities in accordance with the training and orientation project.
  • Submission of end-of-internship documentation.
  • Registration for the internship grade recording session.

Blackboard Internship

Upon completion of the internship, the student submits the end-of-internship documentation to the designated area coordinator and the university internship tutor, following the instructions available on the Blackboard Stage page.

The student then registers for the internship grade recording session (Internship, Prof. Chiara Paolino).

  • Study plan. How can I amend my study plan to include the internship? The university internship tutor will instruct the Student Services Office in May to include the internship in your study plan in place of the relevant examination.
  • Internship interruption. Is it possible to withdraw from the internship? Yes; however, in the event of withdrawal, the internship CFU will not be awarded and the examination included in the study plan will need to be sat.
  • The internship project has not been approved. Can I activate a curricular internship with CFU? No: if the internship project has not been approved, the internship must be activated without CFU.
  • The host organisation requires availability for business travel. This must be communicated in good time to the Stage & Placement Service.
  • Absences due to illness or examinations and interim assessments. These are permissible provided they are communicated to and agreed with the company tutor in advance.
