What is the internship

The curricular internship is a training experience that, in addition to representing a stimulus to personal and professional growth, offers the student the opportunity to take a first step into the world of work, putting themselves to the test and verifying their areas of interest and aptitudes in the field.

The Faculty Guide indicates the ECTS corresponding to the internship and the year of the programme in which it should be included in the study plan. Depending on the degree programme, the internships are awarded 4 ECTS (minimum 100 hours), 6 ECTS (minimum 150 hours) or 8 ECTS (minimum 200 hours).

The curricular internship must be included in the study plan, in order to be able to record it at its conclusion through the appropriate INTERNSHIP appeal and thus obtain the corresponding credits. The internship gives the right to an approval, not to a vote out of thirty.

Each degree programme in the Faculty offers the possibility of including an optional internship in the study plan under the heading "Other Educational Activities".

STEP for the activation of the Training Project:

  1. Log in to the https://step.unicatt.it/ portal
  2. select the type of internship: CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP FOR STUDENTS (WITH CFU) or, in the case of an internship abroad: CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP FOR STUDENTS (WITH CFU, abroad);
  3. select, as internship tutor, the wording Language Tutor – Milan Campus (Faculty of Linguistic Sciences and Foreign Literatures);
  4. fill in the Training Project.

To follow:

  1. The student must confirm the data.
  2. The company must in turn confirm the data.
  3. Both parties must, therefore, wait for the final confirmation by the Internship Tutors.

Further information can be found in the e-mails that will be sent automatically by the system.

The internship is considered to be regularly activated when the Internship & Placement service has sent an e-mail confirming activation to the host company/institution, the intern and the Internship Tutors indicating the start date. Internship hours carried out before or after those indicated in the internship contract or in the total absence of a contract will not be recognized.

All internships identified independently by the student and which are not included in the "faculty proposals" page of the Curricular Internships Community on Blackboard must be approved by the Internship Tutors after contacting tutorstage.lingue@unicatt.it

Timing

The internship can start from 14 days after the insertion of the Training Project on the https://step.unicatt.it/ portal, subject to activation of the agreement between the company and the University.

a copy of the individual employment contract. The contract must precisely indicate the period of performance (start and end date), the tasks performed and the weekly working hours;

a declaration on company letterhead with the owner's original signature and indicating the tasks performed, the duration of the employment relationship, working hours and with consent to the processing of personal data;

a 2-3 page report, written by the student, on the professional experience.

Guidelines for writing the final report

Once received, the Internship Tutors will submit the documentation to the Internship Commission which is responsible for assessing the suitability of the work activity for the purpose of awarding training credits. Each case is evaluated independently, considering tasks and duration. Confirmation or otherwise of eligibility will be communicated to the student by e-mail. In the event of a positive result, the student will be able to register for the INTERNSHIP session for registration.

N.B.: It is recommended to send all the required documentation in a single e-mail as soon as you have it and not to wait for the last INTERNSHIP session before the graduation exam. If the activity is not deemed suitable by the Internship Commission, in fact, it will not be possible to acquire the credits and it will be necessary to carry out a curricular internship or cover the credits with another activity deemed suitable.

What to do at the end of the internship

At the end of the curricular internship or when the number of hours necessary to obtain credits has been reached, the intern must ask the company tutor to send the evaluation form and the signature sheet, bearing the original (not digital) signature of the company tutor, by e-mail to tutorstage.lingue@unicatt.it. The e-mail must have as its subject "STAGE_NOME and SURNAME of the intern" and the intern himself (nome.cognome@icatt.it) must be included in Cc.

N.B.: The evaluation form to be completed online is required by Internship & Placement and does not replace the document necessary for the certification of the curricular internship.

End-of-internship documents sent to the Internship Tutors directly by the student will not be accepted.

If, during the internship, the student has not sent an e-mail to the Internship Tutors reporting on the activities carried out each week, he/she must send a final report as an alternative to tutorstage.lingue@unicatt.it .

How to register the curricular internship

Students must register for the exam session in the same way as for exams. The dates of the exams are published in the appropriate section of the website https://milano.unicatt.it/polo-studenti-e-didattica-programmi-dei-corsi-orari-delle-lezioni under the heading INTERNSHIP (COURSE A).

Information:

  • You can register in the 30 days before and up to 4 days before the date of the exam.
  • Lecturer to be selected: Prof. Chiara FRIGERIO.
  • The recording is online and takes place automatically within a couple of working days from the date of the roll call; No further steps are required on the part of the student.
  • Once the result has been registered, the student will receive notification of the approval to be accepted.

The curricular internship must be concluded and certified within the deadlines set for graduation. There is an INTERNSHIP session at each graduation session.

How far in advance should I move to look for an internship? Is there a set period?

For an internship in Italy, we recommend that you start searching at least 2 months in advance, for an internship abroad at least 3 months in advance. It is possible to carry out the curricular internship at any time, subject to verification of eligibility for the recognition of the activity for the purposes of the internship. The curricular internship must be concluded and certified within the deadlines set for graduation.

1. Where can I find curricular internship offers?

Within the Curricular Internships Community (on Blackboard), on the Internship & Placement portal (https://step.unicatt.it/) or on the UCSC International page (for internship offers abroad). It is also possible to propose an internship found independently.

2. Is it possible to carry out an internship in companies that are not included in the Faculty's list of proposals and are not affiliated with the University?

Yes, in this case the student must send an e-mail to tutorstage.lingue@unicatt.it summarizing the internship offer and indicating precisely:

  • Company name (sector in which it operates and place of work)
  • Recruitment office and detailed list of tasks
  • weekly working hours
  • duration of the internship.

If the student's proposal is approved, the company can stipulate the agreement and activate the Training Project.

3. Which tutor should I select when filling in the Training Project on the https://step.unicatt.it/ portal?

Under "University Tutor" you need to select Language Tutor – Milan Campus (Faculty of Linguistic Sciences and Foreign Literatures). The selection of another tutor will cause the cancellation of the procedure.

4. Can I carry out the curricular internship in two different companies and divide the number of hours into two parts?

No. The curricular internship must be carried out continuously, at the same company, with a minimum of 20 hours per week.

5. How do I request the interruption of the curricular internship? And the extension?

It is possible to request the early interruption of the curricular internship by connecting to https://step.unicatt.it/. The company must access the portal with its credentials, enter the "Internships and internships" section and click on the name of the intern. At the bottom of the Training Project data there is the "Request interruption" button.

Please note that it is not possible to interrupt the curricular internship (for example, in correspondence with the exam session) and then resume it later.

It is possible to request an extension of the internship only once and for a period not exceeding 30 days. The request must always be made through the portal.

6. What should I do if I am planning a trip?

Travel must be related to the Training Project and the company tutor must be present. For trips to Italy, simply send an e-mail to Internship & Placement (stage-mi@unicatt.it) and to the Internship Tutors (tutorstage.lingue@unicatt.it) to notify them.

For business trips abroad, it is necessary to fill in the Foreign Travel Communication Form and send it at least 10 days before departure by e-mail to Internship & Placement (stage-mi@unicatt.it).

Please note that Università Cattolica is responsible for the insurance of trainees against accidents at work with INAIL, as well as for civil liability towards third parties with a suitable insurance company.

7.  I have a problem activating the internship on the portal. The company has questions about the agreement or is unable to confirm the Training Project. Who should I contact?

To the Internship & Placement office that manages the portal: stage-mi@unicatt.it; Tel. 02 72348500.

8. What is the difference between a curricular internship with CFU and a curricular internship with 0 CFU?

The curricular internship with ECTS is an internship carried out by the student after having included him in the study plan and which must therefore be recorded. The curricular internship with 0 credits is an internship that the student activates without including it in the study plan, for example because he has already covered the credits of "Other Training Activities" with other exams or because he has already taken the curricular internship with CFU.

9. I want to carry out a 0 credits curricular or extra-curricular internship. Who should I contact?

At Internship & Placement (Tel. 02 7234 8500 - stage-mi@unicatt.it). Please note that extra-curricular internships can only be activated after graduation.

Within the Curricular Internships Community on Blackboard it is possible to find all the information relating to curricular internship opportunities with ECTS, how to activate the internship and its recognition in the study plan.

Students are invited to carefully read the procedure for activating and recognising the curricular internship and to view the Notices and F.A.Q. section published on Blackboard.
