(Milk Offering, Milk Boy)

The work combines painting, sculpture, video, and sound within a single installation. The projection of a moving body enters into direct dialogue with the painted surface and the three-dimensional structure that supports it, blurring the boundary between image and object. The reference to the ‘offering’ in the title also introduces a ritual dimension and a concept rooted in Christianity. In ancient and medieval Christian tradition, the blood of Christ shed on the cross is likened to a mother’s milk: just as a mother nourishes her child, so Christ spiritually nourishes believers through the blood flowing from his pierced side, in an image that unites the Cross, the Eucharist and Baptism. In Cass’s work, this gesture is isolated and transformed through repetition and projection. The real body, the luminous image and the geometric form are thus brought together within the same perceptual space.
