(Unsaid)

Unsaid emerged from the collaboration between Rui Chafes and the Irish artist and poet Orla Barry, bringing together sculpture and voice. The iron structure functions not merely as an object to be observed, but enters into a relationship with the body and with the immaterial dimension of sound. The title, Unsaid, evokes what remains outside or at the margins of verbal communication. The contrast between the physical presence of iron and the invisibility of the voice thus creates a space for listening, in which body, word, silence, and matter become elements of a single experience. Orla Barry’s photographic image, which is closely linked to Unsaid, reaffirms the link between the physical and spiritual realms: the skin on her back is tattooed with symbols that evoke the body’s internal organs, in an anthropological allusion to the rituals through which humankind has always sought meanings capable of transcending its own material existence.
