Support for motherhood and parenthood

Support for motherhood and parenthood

In order to support motherhood and parenthood, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore has approved by Rector's Decree a number of provisions for students at all campuses.

During the pregnancy and breastfeeding phase or in any case up to the first year of the son's or daughter's life, additional financial benefits are provided for the mother or father in addition to those already provided for by the General Regulations for the determination of university fees.

Extensions of the payment deadlines for instalments, logistical facilities to access campuses, take admission tests to degree programmes, follow teaching activities, and undergo exams and final examinations are also granted.

In addition, in the event of the birth of a son or daughter or the adoption of a minor up to the age of 12, students who have become parents can obtain a temporary suspension of their university career, during which fees are not due.

To access the benefits, it is necessary to send the "Communication form of the state of pregnancy and parenthood" to the email address: sostegno.genitorialita@unicatt.it , attaching a health document relating to the state of pregnancy or birth certificate.

The guidelines published here define in detail the aid and how to take advantage of these benefits.

  1. What is the precondition for me to be able to access all the benefits provided by the parenting guidelines?
    At the time of submitting the form, as per the next point, you must be correctly enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or integrated degree programme following payment of the first instalment and in any case in good standing.
    For those who take the admission tests to the degree programmes, the administrative structures of the campuses will provide logistical facilities taking into account the needs of pregnant or breastfeeding students (e.g. dedicated or isolated workstations, etc.), including the recovery of the time taken to breastfeed.
  2. How do I apply for the benefits provided for by the parenting guidelines?
    After carefully reading the guidelines at the link: https://www.unicatt.it/landing/istituzionale/pari-opportunita-e-inclusione/linee-guida/sostegno-alla-maternita-ed-alla-genitorialita.html , send to the email address sostegno.genitorialita@unicatt.it  the form that you can download from the same page together with the medical certification attesting to the state of pregnancy/pregnancy at risk/maternity/parenthood.
  3. What are the benefits I can request?
    • Logistical facilitations such as the availability of changing tables, access to lifts, parking lots, etc. within the UC locations where educational activities take place.
    • Didactic mediations relating to the admission test to the Bachelor's, Master's or Integrated Degree Programme for which you have applied.
    • Didactic mediation in relation to the delivery of teaching (use of lessons, laboratories, etc.), exams and final exams. In such cases, you will be invited to contact the degree course coordinator.
    •  Suspension of academic career. The suspension automatically entails the reduction of the university fees provided in proportion to the period of suspension.
  4.  If I do not suspend my career, can I benefit from financial benefits?
    The reduction in university fees described in the guidelines applies only in the event of career suspension. If you do not want to suspend, we invite you to view the economic benefits provided for by the current legislation available at the following link: https://www.unicatt.it/ammissione/costi-e-opportunita/quanto-costa-studiare-in-cattolica.html. For further questions, please contact the Student Services Centre at your home campus.
  5. How is the reduction in university contributions for career suspension calculated?
    The reduction is calculated on the basis of the university contributions due with respect to the academic year of reference (1/11 - 31/10) in which the months of suspension requested fall, with the exception of the payment of the first instalment.
    The reduction in contributions cannot be retroactive to the start date of the suspension period.
  6. How much reduction in university contributions am I entitled to?
    If the months of suspension fall within the same academic year, the reduction in contributions will be calculated as shown in Table 1 below, excluding the registration fee (€ 260) and the Tassa regionale per il diritto allo studio universitario (regional fee for the right to university education (€ 140):
    • Table 1
      • Suspension of 5 months: 40% reduction;
      • Suspension of 6-7 months: 50% reduction;
      • Suspension of 8-9 months: 60% reduction;
      • Suspension of 10-11 months: 70% reduction;
      • Suspension of 12-15 months: in this case, it is advisable to ask for the career resumption provided for in the General regulations for determining university fees and contributions.
    • If it is necessary to extend the suspension into the months of the subsequent academic year and within 4 months, a reduction of 1/12 of the contributions due for the new academic year is applied for each month. If the additional suspension period of the new academic year is 5 months or more, the reductions in Table 1 apply.
  7. After how long from my request, is the suspension of my career applied?
    Normally starting from the first day of the month following that of the request, submitted through the form downloadable at the link: https://www.unicatt.it/landing/istituzionale/pari-opportunita-e-inclusione/linee-guida/sostegno-alla-maternita-ed-alla-genitorialita.html
  8. How long should the suspension last?
    The suspension of the university career can last a minimum of 5 months up to a maximum of 15 consecutive months (starting from 3 months before the birth of a child up to 12 months after).
  9. If I suspend my career for a period of less than 15 months, can I subsequently apply for further suspensions related to the same parenthood/maternity status?
    It is possible to extend the suspension period as long as there are no interruptions. The months of suspension must therefore be consecutive.
  10. Can I suspend my studies at any time during my university career?
    Yes, as long as you still have exams in debt in addition to the final exam.
  11. Does the period of suspension granted according to the parenting guidelines contribute to the calculation of the forfeiture?
    The calculation of any period of academic inactivity is blocked with the suspension and reactivated at the end of the suspension.
  12. Is it possible to suspend one's career and apply for educational mediation at the same time?
    No, because in the event of suspension it is not possible to attend courses, laboratories, or take internship activities and/or exams. They are therefore two incompatible requests.
  13. Up to what age of my child can I take advantage of the benefits provided by the guidelines?
    By the end of his twelfth year of life.
  14. Among the didactic mediations, can I ask to take the exams remotely?
    No, it is only possible in the case of a certified high-risk pregnancy. Otherwise and with reference only to oral exams, it is possible to ask, for example, to change the order of call so that priority is guaranteed
  15. If mine is a certified high-risk pregnancy, am I entitled to additional benefits over and above those provided for in the parenting guidelines?
    Yes, in addition to the benefits mentioned, you can request to sit your exams and final examination remotely, as decided by the university's central bodies
