The Lion and the Viper: the arts in Brescia in the fourteenth century

Brescia

The conference aims to reflect on a little-known century of Brescia's artistic and cultural history, deeply marked by the Visconti domination. Especially in the years of Giovanni and Bernabò Visconti, thanks to the closeness and marriage policy of the Lords of Milan (Bernabò married Beatrice Regina Della Scala, Cansignorio's sister), Brescia was a real cultural bridge between Verona, the city of the Scaligeri, and the heart of the Visconti State.

The chronological span of the conference goes from the end of the lordship of Berardo, Federico and Maffeo Maggi to the advent of the lordship of Pandolfo Malatesta.
