What is an internship

An internship is a learning experience within a professional environment – a company, firm, or institution – offering an opportunity for both professional and personal growth.
It allows students to experience firsthand the connection between the knowledge acquired at the University and its practical application within organizations.

Regulations

The internship is optional.

In the third year of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme, the Faculty of Economics offers an elective educational activity worth 6 ECTS credits.
These credits may be allocated to a curricular internship (with ECTS credits) when approved by the Degree Programme Coordinator, in compliance with the regulations.

The 6-ECTS internship does not award a numerical grade but a “Pass”.

Minimum duration: three months full time.

To apply for an internship with ECTS recognition, students must have passed all first- and second-year exams and obtained approval from the Degree Programme Coordinator (through the university internship tutor). Exceptions can be made for language and theology exams.

At least 15 days before the start of the internship, students must send the internship request form and the self-certification of passed exams to the university internship tutor.

Activating the internship is a mandatory procedure and requires at least 15 days.

The inclusion of the internship in the study plan, replacing an elective course, is managed by the Student Services Office towards the end of the internship.

At the end of the internship, the student must send the final internship documentation to the university internship tutor and register for the internship validation session.

Guidelines for the final internship report

Preparing and submitting the final internship documentation is the student’s responsibility.
Students must send the final documentation by email to the university internship tutor at least 10 days before the internship validation session.

The documentation must include three attachments:

  • The timesheet, signed and stamped by the company tutor (or on company letterhead in place of the stamp).
  • The company evaluation form, signed by the company tutor.
  • The final internship report, at least eight pages long.

In addition, the company is required to complete an online internship evaluation questionnaire.

Finally, the student must register for the internship validation session (Internship, Prof. Roberta Paroli).

  1. How can I find a company?
It is recommended to use the Step portal, which is updated daily, to find organizations where you can submit your application.
  2. I found a company willing to host me for an internship through personal contacts. Can I propose it for my internship?
Yes, as long as the company agrees to offer an internship that complies with the regulations and follows the official activation procedure.
  3. I have passed all first- and second-year exams except one, which is not a language or theology exam. Can I carry out an internship with ECTS?
    No.
  4. If I have not passed all first- and second-year exams, can I carry out an internship without ECTS?
Yes. An internship without ECTS has no entry requirements and does not require final documentation; it only needs to be properly activated and completed.
  5. The company offered me a six-month internship, but I am available for only three months. Can I stop the internship halfway and still have my credits recognized?
No. Interrupting the internship agreement results in the loss of credit recognition in the study plan.
  6. I am doing the internship and notice some changes compared to the initial training project. What should I do?
Contact both the Stage & Placement Office (stage-mi@unicatt.it) and the university internship tutor by email.
  7. During my internship, the company asks me to go on a business trip. What should I do?
The details of the trip, consistent with the internship learning objectives, must be communicated in advance to the Stage & Placement Office, and in copy to the university internship tutor, to ensure insurance coverage.
  8. Where can I find the internship validation dates?
They are published on the webpage of Prof. Roberta Paroli, Coordinator of the Faculty Internship Committee.
  9. I plan to graduate, but my internship ends a few days after the validation date. Can I validate the internship even if it is not yet finished?
Yes, provided that the internship ends no later than two weeks after the validation date.
  10. I plan to graduate, but my internship ends after both the validation date and the graduation session. Can I still validate the internship and graduate?
No. You will validate it at the next available session and graduate in the following session.
