Programme aims and intended learning outcomes

The Master of Science (MSc) in Agricultural and Food Economics, developed in cooperation between the Faculty of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Economics and Law, has been the first Italian MSc programme  in agri-business taught entirely in English, designed to yield strong academic and job market outcomes.

Students can choose between two different curricula:

  • Business and innovation policies
  • Sustainability policies

The learning paths are aimed at reaching the following objectives:

  1. Sustainable Food Systems: Explore the agri-food systems’ structure and stakeholder dynamics to foster sustainability.
  2. Management and Innovation: Navigate business management and innovation issues specific to the agri-food sector.
  3. Market Mechanisms: Learn about market regulation, agrifood policies, food legislation, trade and competition rules.
  4. Consumer Behavior: Understand its influence on the agrifood system's structure and strategies.

Historically linked to SMEA, the Graduate School of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC), the programme benefit of over 40 years of specialized education in agricultural and food economics.

The program is designed for all three-year graduates in technical/scientific and economics/management subjects. During the programme, students will benefit from intensive, interactive classes and direct engagement with faculty and industry stakeholders.

The Master is characterized by a strong international orientation. Students will have the opportunity to experience an international environment, interacting with international peers, participating in two distinct Double Degree Programmes and spending one or two semesters at partner universities in Europe, Australia, or North America.
