Luca Buratto
Winner of the 2015 edition of the Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary, Luca Buratto stands out for his interpretations "full of finesse and a very strong imagination" (Musical America). He has been spoken of as "a name to follow" (The Guardian) and "an extraordinary virtuoso" (The Telegraph). The magazine International Piano called his playing "masterful"; his highly acclaimed interpretations of the prolific British composer Thomas Adès also reveal the versatility of "an artist as enlightening as he is fearless" (ConcertoNet). Recently, Giovanni Neri expressed admiration for his talent, writing: "Really very good, honor to merit, and I wonder why Buratto does not have the fame he deserves."
Buratto's recent appearances include solo recitals and orchestral concerts at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, Gilmore Festival Rising Stars in Kalamazoo, Berlin Konzerthaus, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Royal Festival Hall, Roy Thompson Hall and Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore.
As a soloist he has collaborated with conductors such as Hannu Lintu, Maxime Pascal, Hans Graf, Karina Canellakis, Claus Peter Flor, Jader Bignamini, Thomas Søndergård, and with orchestras including the London Philharmonic, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Milan Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony, the Magedburg Philharmonie and the Edmonton Symphony.
Comfortable both as a soloist and in recitals, Luca Buratto has participated in festivals and residencies such as "Progetto Martha Argerich" of the Lugano Festival and Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the Busoni Festival in Italy, the Marlboro Music Festival and the Music Academy of the West in the USA, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival and the Banff Centre in Canada.
His interpretations of Robert Schumann have captured special praise. In a review of his CD: Schumann/Davidsbündlertänze, Humoreske & Blumenstück (Hyperion Records), Alex Baran, of Wholenote Toronto, wrote: "Buratto plays with such conviction that he is certain that he has restored Schumann's authentic voice. It's a deep connection that he maintains without apparent effort for the entire duration of the recording. If you can, listen to it live."
Luca Buratto is a person who believes in the importance of music as a powerful tool in favor of social justice. He has often played and collaborated in support of non-profit organizations such as the "DDD Onlus Project" in Milan, "The Red Pencil" and "Superhero Me" in Singapore, the "BRAHMSaMILANO" project and the "Primavera di Baggio".
Buratto masters were Davide Cabassi and Edda Ponti. In 2010 he graduated from the Milan Conservatory and then received the title of Master from the Bolzano Conservatory. Great music in Milan
The PIANO IN THE UNIVERSITY project is the result of an agreement between the Milan branch of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and one of the most important houses in the world of musical instruments, Kawai Pianos of Hamamatsu (Japan). Its promoters are the Master Davide Cabassi (lecturer at the Milan Conservatory) and Prof. Enrico Reggiani (director of the Studium Musicale di Ateneo) as artistic creator and scientific director, respectively.
The aim of the project is to contribute to enriching the musical offer of the City of Milan according to innovative criteria and methods from a cultural-musicological point of view and of the highest artistic profile, first of all, by establishing a chamber music season at the Aula Magna of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan that will make use of established and prestigious names of international piano concerts.
