FACULTY OF MATHEMATICAL, PHYSICAL AND NATURAL SCIENCES

Light, Photon, Action: the second quantum revolution to see the invisible.
Claudio Giannetti and Stefania Pagliara
Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences
When quanta of energy, called photons, interact with matter, it begins to "speak", revealing information hidden from the human eye. With light we can explore the invisible: analyze the composition of materials, monitor air quality, detect pollutants, diagnose diseases, check the freshness of food and even date works of art without damaging them. But what happens if it is a single, single photon that interacts with matter? Incredibly, one can be worth more than many: this is the frontier of the second quantum revolution that paves the way for a spatial and temporal resolution never seen before.

Minimal surface area and fluid dynamics for medicine
Giulia Giantesio and Luca Tamanini
Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences
Many times we think that mathematics is just abstraction, but what if we showed you that this theoretical part of it is also fundamental in practical applications?
Find out what soap bubbles and mathematical analysis have in common and what fluid dynamics can do in the medical field.

Machines That Learn: From Imitation to Intelligence
Alessandro Incremona
Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences
From science fiction robots to modern algorithms that translate, recognize faces and generate images: artificial intelligence is now part of our daily lives. A journey through the history, applications and future challenges of a technology that imitates (and sometimes surpasses) human intelligence.

FACULTY OF EDUCATION

Scroll, Click, Play: Educating on the Net with Games
Simona Ferrari and Federica Pelizzari
Faculty of Education
In a world of health crises, wars and digital disinformation, how can we help young people navigate the news and social media? The stand offers an interactive experience in which play becomes an educational tool to develop media awareness, critical spirit and digital well-being. Through board and digital games, visitors will be able to put themselves in the shoes of influencers, journalists and politicians in a fictitious social platform, or create (and unmask!) fake news in a compelling card challenge. The stand is designed for girls and boys, teachers, educators and families.

FACULTY OF PSYCHOLOGY
The Awareness That Saves the World
Michela Balconi
Faculty of Psychology
Enhancing the awareness of one's ability to concentrate, maintain attentional focus and more generally of one's cognitive and emotional resources, not only allows one to identify one's strengths and limits, but also allows one to develop neurocognitive enhancement and empowerment training to continuously improve one's performance.
During the workshop it will be possible to experience a short bio/neuro-feedback session, in order to better understand the functioning of these tools for the enhancement of awareness and attention.

6.30 pm - Auditorium Santa Giulia
Round table
Research, creativity and new experiences to re-inhabit the world

Information
The activities in Santa Giulia are free and open to the public without reservation.
ONLY for schools, reservations are required by e-mail to
