The study plan is structured to accompany the student from initial theoretical training to clinical practice on patients and the management of complex dental cases.

  • First year: acquisition of the fundamental scientific bases through courses in biology, chemistry, physics, histology and anatomy, together with an introduction to physiology and the first preparatory skills for the dental area

  • Second year: in-depth study of basic biomedical sciences with a focus on physiology, biochemistry, microbiology and general pathology, as well as the start of the first introductory activities in the preclinical field

  • Third year: transition to the preclinical and clinical dimension with introduction to fundamental dental disciplines and development of diagnosis and treatment planning skills

  • Fourth year: consolidation of clinical knowledge in the field of dentistry with in-depth study of the main specialist disciplines and start of clinical activities on patients under supervision

  • Fifth year: strengthening of clinical practice with structured care activities and progressive management of treatments in the various areas of specialist dentistry

  • Sixth year: completion of clinical training with advanced professional internship, management of complex cases and preparation of the final exam

The programme also integrates transversal medical-scientific, ethical and relational activities, with a progressive increase in the practical component and clinical responsibility of the student, until the achievement of professional autonomy.

Teaching approach

Training in Dentistry integrates frontal teaching, clinical activities and innovative tools, with a progressive approach that accompanies the student from theoretical learning to practice on the patient.

Internships and hospital network

Clinical training takes place mainly at the A. Gemelli University Hospital IRCCS, a national and international reference center for assistance, teaching and research.

Starting from the third year of the programme, students are progressively placed in dental wards and clinics, initially through observation activities and shadowing with senior students, residents, tutors and teachers, up to an increasingly active involvement in patient management.

The presence in a large multidisciplinary university hospital allows daily confrontation with complex clinical cases and with professionals from different medical specialties, guaranteeing a complete and integrated training experience.

Teaching activities and training tools

Traditional teaching is accompanied by practical activities carried out in classrooms equipped with simulators and dental dummies.

Learning is supported by the use of virtual anatomical models, digital technologies and anatomical preparations, which allow an in-depth understanding of clinical procedures and anatomy of the oro-maxillofacial district, according to a strongly case-oriented approach.

Integrative experiences and complementary activities

The training course includes international mobility programmes and scientific research activities.

Social and health volunteer initiatives are also planned, also in collaboration with local realities such as Caritas of Rome, to support the development of the student's ethical and social sensitivity.

/ Admission

The admission process

Admissions 2027/28

New: The "A. Gemelli" Faculty of Medicine and Surgery organises 150-hour remote preparation courses for the academic year 2027/28.

The course is mainly aimed at students who have recently finished the penultimate year of high school and intend to start their preparation in advance for the admission competition for the academic year 2027/28.

Admissions 2026/27

For the academic year 2026/27, a public competition is announced for admission to the first year of integrated degree programmes in:

  • Medicine and Surgery (488 places)
  • Medicine and Surgery with a Technological Specialization (90 places) inter-university with Roma Tre University
  • Dentistry (40 places)

Rankings and notices

The admission tests will be held in person (computer-based multi-session mode) at locations specifically identified by the University in the cities of Rome, Milan, Naples, Bari, Reggio Calabria, Catania, Palermo, Cagliari based on the scheduling of the exam sessions that will be made available on the registration portal.

Places at each venue/session are allocated by fill, taking into consideration only registrations completed in the manner and terms referred to in art. 3 of the call.

The general list of convocations, with indication of the venue, date and time of the test for each candidate, will be published respectively:

  • From 23 February 2026 for the first round in February;
  • From 10 April 2026 for the second round in April.

If, due to regulatory or organisational contingencies, it is necessary to make changes to the calendar or to the methods of administering the tests, notice will be given through public notices on this page.

Once you have paid the entrance exam participation fee, you will have free and unlimited access to the online simulation platform made available by the University. On the summary page you will find the link to the simulation platform (you will not receive the link by e-mail but you will have to log back in to your registration profile).

The final merit rankings are drawn up according to the following criteria:

A) The ranking list for the Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics programme is drawn up on the basis of the best final score (or the single score if the candidate has taken only one round) obtained by all those who have selected the admission competition for the integrated degree programme in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics a.y. 2026/2027, ordered on the basis of merit

B) The rankings of the Medicine and Surgery and Medicine and Surgery courses with a technological focus (MedTec) are drawn up on the basis of the best final score (or the only score if the candidate has taken only one round) of all those who have selected the admission competition for Medicine/MedTec a.y. 2026/2027, ordered according to their best or only final score. The two merit rankings (for Medicine and for Medicine and Surgery with a technological focus) will therefore coincide with each other and the places allocated according to the following criteria:

  • Pre-enrolment (including payment of the first instalment of university tuition fees), or enrolment, in one of the two degree programmes determines in any case and at any stage of the procedure the cancellation of the position in the ranking list in the remaining course;
  • Candidates who intend to maintain their position in the ranking list for only one of the two degree programmes do not have to pre-enrol/enrol if they are admitted to the degree programme of lesser interest, for which - at the end of the deadline for acceptance - they will withdraw, while maintaining their position in the ranking list in the course of greatest interest.

Therefore:

  • if the candidate is simultaneously admitted to both degree programmes (Medicine and Surgery and MedTec), he/she can immediately choose which degree programme to pre-enrol/enrol in and his/her position will be simultaneously cancelled in the ranking list in the programme not chosen;
  • if the candidate is admitted to only one of the two courses (Medicine and Surgery or MedTec), he/she may decide - according to his/her interest - to proceed with pre-enrolment/enrolment in the programme to which he/she has been admitted. Pre-enrolment/enrolment will contextually, automatically and irreversibly result in the cancellation of your position in the ranking list of the programme to which you have not yet been admitted and which you cannot – under any circumstances – take over by subsequent scrolling;
  • A candidate who is not admitted to either degree programme retains his or her position in the ranking list until he or she is called upon to take over.

The admission examination consists of a written test of sixty-five (65) multiple-choice questions, which have five answer options, among which the candidate must identify only one by discarding the incorrect, arbitrary or less probable conclusions, distributed as follows:

  • 15 questions of logical reasoning;
  • 45 questions on scientific culture: 15 on chemistry, 15 on biology, 10 on physics and 5 on mathematics (with elements of logic);
  • 5 questions of ethical-religious culture.

A maximum time of 65 minutes is allotted for the test (plus 6 minutes for the so-called "reserve questions").

A maximum score of 65 (sixty-five) points is allocated for the evaluation of the test according to the following criteria:

  • 1 point for each correct answer;
  • minus 0.25 points for each wrong answer;
  • 0 points for each answer not given (omitted).

In order to be admitted to each degree programme, in any case, it is necessary to obtain a final score of no less than 20 points out of the total 65 achievable.

In consideration of the need to carry out several exam sessions and in order to preserve par condicio, transparency, impartiality and the good progress of the selection, separate exam tests will be prepared for each session in compliance with the criteria of balance between the various types of questions. At the end of the exam (whether it coincides with the expiry of the maximum time or early voluntary closure) each candidate must answer further 6 questions in 6 minutes automatically assigned by the exam platform (one for each subject).

These "reserve" questions will NOT count towards the assessment of the test unless, after the scheduled test sessions have been held, an anomaly emerges in one or more questions such as to lead to their cancellation. Only in this case, once the criticality has been ascertained, will the University consider neutralising it and replacing the question with the reserve question relating to the same subject, in order to guarantee the objectivity of the assessments and equal treatment of candidates.

Once you have paid the entrance exam participation fee, you will have free and unlimited access to the online simulation platform made available by the University. On the summary page you will find the link to the simulation platform (you will not receive the link by e-mail but you will have to log back in to your registration profile).

Can I participate even if I have not yet obtained my high school diploma?

Those enrolled in the last year of secondary school at higher education institutions in Italy and abroad that allows the achievement of a valid qualification pursuant to the ministerial provisions for admission to higher education courses in the Italian system may also participate, subject to subsequent verification of the achievement of the admission qualification.

I am enrolled in the penultimate year of high school (upper secondary school), can I participate in the test and "keep the score" for admissions 27/28?

Students enrolled in the PENULTIMATE year of high school NON can take the test or "keep" the score for admission to the academic year 2027/28.

Can I take the test more than once? What is the test calendar?

Candidates may take up to two tests. In fact, there are two rounds of exams according to the following calendar:

  • FIRST ROUND: 27 and 28 FEBRUARY 2026;
  • SECOND ROUND: 17 and 18 APRIL 2026.

If I have registered for the first round, can I also participate in the second?

Candidates who apply for participation from 28 January to 23:59 on 17 February 2026 will be able to participate in both rounds. Those who apply for participation from 2 to 31 March 2026 will only be able to participate in the second round of examinations in April.

Can I compete for all three integrated degree programmes that are part of the selection?

No, it is necessary to choose whether to compete for Medicine and Surgery and MedTec or for Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics.

By registering for the admission competition for the integrated degree programmes Medicine and Surgery and Medicine and Surgery with a technological focus a.y. 2026/2027 , the candidate selects both the degree programmes Medicine and Surgery and Medicine and Surgery with a technological focus.

ATTENTION: This selection (preference 1 and preference 2), necessary during the registration phase for the competition, does not constitute a binding order of preference in the preparation of the final merit rankings: each candidate who has selected the Medicine/MedTec competition will compete for places in the first year of both degree courses and will be placed, based on the score, indifferently in both final rankings. When assigning places, each candidate will be able to choose which of the two degree courses to pre-enrol/enrol in according to the criteria indicated in art. 8 of the announcement, which is recommended to be read carefully.

Can I change the degree programme I have chosen or the order of preference?

It is possible to change the selection of the admission competition (for Dentistry or for Medicine/MedTec) only within the registration deadline of the first round in which the candidate has registered (i.e. by 17 February 2026, if you participate in both rounds or by 31 March 2026 if you participate only in the second round in April). After this deadline, no requests for modification will be accepted.

How are the merit rankings drawn up and what are the criteria for assigning places?

The final merit rankings valid for admission to the integrated degree programmes covered by this call for applications are drawn up according to the following criteria:

  • The ranking list for the Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics programme is drawn up on the basis of the best final score (or the single score if the candidate has taken only one round) obtained by all those who have selected the Admission Competition for the integrated degree programme in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics a.y. 2026/2027, ordered on the basis of merit;
  • The rankings of the Medicine and Surgery and Medicine and Surgery courses with a technological focus (MedTec) are drawn up on the basis of the best final score (or the only score if the candidate has taken only one round) of all those who have selected the admission competition to Medicine/MedTec a.y. 2026/2027, ordered according to their best or only final score.
The two merit rankings (for Medicine and for Medicine and Surgery with a technological focus) will therefore coincide with each other and the places available in the two degree courses will be allocated according to the following criteria:
  • Pre-enrolment (including payment of the first instalment of university tuition fees), or enrolment, in one of the two degree programmes determines in any case and at any stage of the procedure the cancellation of the position in the ranking list in the remaining course;

I can change the venue and exam session, how should I proceed? And within what terms?

Any change of venue/session must be carried out in the following ways:

  • Log in to the portal;
  • Check any venue/session availability;
  • Make a new reservation that will automatically replace the previous one.

You will receive an e-mail confirming that the session has been changed and that the exam has been called for a new one that will replace the previous one, which is no longer valid.

The change of venue/session is allowed only within the registration deadlines of each round (i.e. by 17 February 2026 for the first round in February and by 31 March 2026 for the second round in April). After the deadline, no change of venue and/or session will be permitted.

How can I check that the chosen session and that my registration was correct?

All information regarding registration for the competition and payment made is always available in your reserved area under the "Log" menu item of the portal and is the only official source for confirmation of registration and the choices expressed (shift, location, date, time and payment).

I am a candidate with a disability and/or diagnosed with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), how can I request additional time and/or compensatory measures?
