/ Overview

The undergraduate degree programme in Matematica (Mathematics) at Università Cattolica di Brescia - divided into three curricula, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence - is designed to provide a solid scientific preparation and develop advanced problem-solving skills through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates mathematics, physics and computer science, fundamental elements of STEM education.

The training allows students to acquire a rigorous mathematical preparation, supported by computer and physical skills that allow them to build and use mathematical models applied to scientific and applied contexts.

The teaching approach of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, together with the direct relationship between professors and students, fosters a learning environment that is attentive to the person and to cultural growth, enhancing the collaborative dimension of study and the presence of an international network of collaborations with European and American universities offers mobility opportunities and in-depth study paths abroad for the most deserving students.

Brescia and Milan are getting closer

Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, the degree programme in Matematica introduces a more flexible mode of attendance that allows first-year students to follow part of the lessons also from the Milan campus, while maintaining the main administrative and teaching headquarters in Brescia.

The main training activities of the first year, including Mathematical Analysis I, Geometry I and General Physics I, can be followed from Milan with the support of dedicated tutors. The courses of Scientific English and Theology 1 will instead be delivered in live online mode.

The organisation provides for the concentration of face-to-face activities on two days a week, with the possibility of accessing the recordings of the lessons for two weeks and carrying out some exercises and tests also at the Milan office.

There is also a reimbursement of up to 500 euros on travel expenses, recognised through a reduction in the fourth instalment of university fees.

Useful information

Practical information to help you enrol and get started at Università Cattolica.

Students with penultimate year of high school abroad

For admission to the programme, you can declare in the Enrolment Portal the average obtained in the penultimate year of secondary school.

If you are about to obtain or have obtained an Italian diploma and have attended the entire penultimate year of secondary school abroad, in order to register for the admission test you must declare in the Enrolment Portal the average converted according to the Italian grade system and upload the report card issued to you by the Italian school.
If you are unable to retrieve the converted report card, but you have the average in tenths relating to the year spent abroad, you can upload an official document issued by the school certifying this information.
If, on the other hand, you only have a document indicating the school credits assigned, you must upload it and take into account that the average obtained is defined according to the following table:

If you do not have one of the above documents, declare the average obtained in the third to last year and upload, in a single file, the relative report card and the transcript of the penultimate year spent abroad.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you have only spent the 1st semester abroad , declare the average obtained in the second semester, expressed in tenths and upload the report card of the penultimate year showing the average obtained in the final examination in tenths.

If you have only completed the 2nd semester abroad , declare the converted average according to the Italian grade system and upload the report card with the marks of the final scrutiny issued by the Italian school.

If you are unable to find the report card with the converted final scrutiny grades or a document showing the average or credits obtained at the end of the penultimate year, declare the average obtained at the end of the 1st semester spent in Italy and upload, in a single file, the transcript of the semester spent abroad and the report card of the first semester attended in Italy.

ATTENTION: under no circumstances will translations of foreign transcripts or self-certifications of conversion of grades be accepted.

Foundation Knowledge Assessment test (VPI)

The Foundation Knowledge Assessment test (VPI) is a compulsory test for all students enrolled in the first year of an undergraduate and integrated degree programme.
After completing your enrolment, you will find on your personal iCatt page the convocation with the date to carry out the VPI.
The VPI is used to ascertain your initial level of preparation and to offer you useful suggestions to face university studies with greater awareness.
The positive outcome of the test is achieved with at least 50%+1 of the correct answers.
In the event of a negative result or absence from the test, an Additional Training Obligation (OFA) is assigned to fill the gaps found.
Any OFA assignment is communicated after enrolment on the personal iCatt page.

Applicants with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Applicants with disabilities and/or SLD may request compensatory tools and/or dispensatory measures at least seven days before the test.

Applicants with a certified disability of 66% or higher, or who are recognised under Law 104/1992, are exempt from university tuition fees but must pay the €100 fee to reserve their place.

Transfers, programme changes and second degrees

Applicants who wish to transfer from another university, apply for a second degree programme or resume their studies must meet the admission requirements.

For the Matematica programme it is not compulsory and can be replaced by other training activities or work experience consistent with the course.
There is recognition of 6 ECTS for a minimum activity of 30 hours, generally to be carried out in the last year of the programme.

The Career Service accompanies students and graduates in their entry into the world of work, offering orientation tools for business and organisational contexts. The service supports the development of transversal skills, encourages meetings with companies and supports the construction of a conscious and coherent professional path.

Every year over 20,000 students participate in the events organized with more than 100 partner companies and over 9,500 carry out an internship thanks to the support of the Career Service and internship tutors.
