/ Overview

The Graduate Degree programme in Scienze linguistiche (Linguistic Sciences) at the Catholic University of Brescia offers specialized training that combines mastery of at least two European or non-European languages with in-depth knowledge of their respective cultural contexts, preparing students to work in international and multicultural professional realities.

The training offer includes four curricula, each dedicated to a specific area of study:

  • Letteratura e comunicazione per i media e le culture digitali (Literature and Communication for Media and Digital Cultures)
  • Lingue, culture e tecnologie per la traduzione professionale (Languages, Cultures and Technologies for Professional Translation)
  • Lingue per il management e il business internazionale (Languages for Management and International Business
  • Management, imprenditorialità e comunicazione per il turismo globale (Management, enterpreneurship and communication for global tourism)

The course combines the study of languages and cultures with courses and activities dedicated to economics and business management, communication and media, tourism, specialist translation and language teaching. The result is a multidisciplinary preparation, designed to meet the needs of different professional sectors and enhance language skills in different application areas.

The training is aimed at developing the ability to use foreign languages, in written and oral communication, in various professional fields: from corporate communication to the management of Italian and international companies, including in the tourism sector, from specialist translation to teaching. Particular attention is paid to the ability to modulate language, choosing registers and modes of expression appropriate to different communicative situations.

A significant role is attributed to the intercultural dimension, which is essential for interpreting cultural differences and consciously addressing the dynamics that characterise international exchanges and relations.

The teaching activity alternates lectures, seminars, workshops, exercises and moments of collaborative learning, including group work and project work. The shared preparation, focused on strengthening linguistic and cultural knowledge, is accompanied by specific in-depth courses for each curriculum.

Dialogue with the professional world accompanies the entire journey through expert testimonies, examination of concrete situations and initiatives carried out together with companies, bodies and institutions. Students also have the opportunity to experiment with advanced digital tools for language processing, including computer-assisted translation software, machine translation systems and applications based on artificial intelligence, also acquiring the ability to critically evaluate their potential and limitations.

At the end of the studies, language preparation can reach level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), corresponding to a particularly high mastery, suitable for communicating and operating effectively even in international professional contexts.

Starting from the 2027/2028 academic year, the Degree Programme in Scienze linguistiche (Linguistic Sciences) changes its name to Languages and Cultures for Communication, Organisations and International Markets (LICOM). (Languages and Cultures for Communication, Organisations and International Markets - LICOM).
