From the algorithm to a product for solving Multiphysics problems

Brescia

FACULTY OF MATHEMATICAL, PHYSICAL AND NATURAL SCIENCES
Master's Degree Programme in Physics

The event is in English

Abstract

Multiphysics simulations are a proofed approach for predicting the behavior of physical devices. They are commonly used in the industry for improving the design of prototypes before manufacturing and then to guide optimization.

There are several potential algorithms dedicated to solving this type of numerical problems, each of those having pros and cons. Each decision eventually affects the kind of application which can be handled.

In this seminar, we will show some examples of real-world multiphysics problems, and the path which has been followed from the initial need, to the decisions about the algorithm, to then arrive at a working product.

Examples will mainly focus on the solution of Maxwell's equations and the design of electrical machines. It will be shown how the adopted approach can include other phenomena such as the mechanics of rigid or deformable bodies, heat transfer, acoustics, and much more.
