Abstract
The transition to a low-carbon global energy system is one of the crucial challenges to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis. The seminar addresses the main pillars of this transformation: decarbonization through the development of renewable energy, electrification of energy consumption in the industrial, civil and transport sectors, and improvement of energy efficiency. The need to build a flexible electricity system, capable of integrating intermittent sources and dynamically responding to demand, will be analyzed. The growing role of digitalisation and artificial intelligence in network management and consumption forecasting will be discussed. Finally, it will reflect on the new dependencies that emerge – from critical materials to digital infrastructures – in the transition from old forms of energy supply to new models.
