Screenwriting Practice Research: A Pre-Conference Workshop for PhD Students

Wednesday September 12th, (14:00-17:30)

This free half-day workshop is intended to draw together and help those students who are undertaking practice-based screenwriting PhDs or, more in general, who are undertaking a Ph.D. about screenwriting.

Led by Associate Professor Craig Batty and Dr Paolo Braga, it will offer insights into screenwriting practice research methodologies and consider strategies for getting the most out of a PhD.

Topics covered include: what does a screenwriting PhD look like? How is a PhD screenplay different to a 'normal' screenplay? How can screenwriting practice contribute to knowledge? What do examiners look for? Where, and how, might you publish on your research?

Students are invited to share their experiences and discuss this exciting mode of research with peers from around the world.

Pre-conference program

First Session (14:00-16:00)

Chairs will present about what screenwriting PhDs need to achieve and how the screenplay can (or should) be part of the thesis.

Ph.D. students will present their work (10 minutes each speaker).

Second Session (16:15-17:30)
