Information literacy

Some UCSC libraries offer- upon request - an information literacy service, intended primarily for UCSC Master’s and PhD students, and provided by expert librarians through classroom lessons and course materials.

This service, using innovative methods and contents developed in national and international academic contexts, aims to inform students and future researchers  about the most relevant elements in the increasingly competitive environment of the Scholarly Communication, as in particular:

  • citation aspects
  • peer reviewing systems
  • new publishing models
     

The information literacy service is therefore the natural evolution of the reference services (basic bibliographic assistance and specialist bibliographical advice), aimed at  helping users to take advantage of the considerable electronic resources heritage made ​​available by UCSC Library System, countering the growing trends of self-managed research by general search engines.
